Your First Run
Create a champion, prepare the starter build, and complete your first automated map.
Every new champion begins on the Floating Isle with a starter weapon, a skill gem, and access to tier 1 maps. Your first objective is simple: verify the build, press Play, and watch how the champion behaves.
1. Create your champion
Choose one of the six classes. This choice sets your legal weapon configuration permanently, plus your starting attributes, starter equipment, starter skill gem, and a recommended Discipline.
The weapon rule never changes. A Fighter carries a one-handed sword and a shield. A Brute carries a two-handed axe and no off-hand. A Rogue carries a dagger in each hand. A Ranger carries a bow and a quiver. An Arcanist carries a wand and a talisman. A Spellblade carries a scepter with either a shield or a talisman.
Everything else stays open. Every class binds any Discipline and uses any support gem. Read Classes before you commit.
2. Check the starter kit
Open Inventory and confirm that both hands are filled. Your class needs its complete legal configuration before it can enter a map. The Brute is the exception: its off-hand stays empty.
Then open Skill Gems and confirm the starter gem occupies an automation slot. You start with exactly one gem. Every other gem drops in a map or arrives through a trade.
The character AI uses every equipped skill on cooldown when it has a valid target. Empty slots are allowed, but filling them gives the AI more tools.
3. Review automation
The default rules are intended to work immediately. Before changing them, learn what the defaults do:
- collect loot allowed by the loot filter;
- drink life and mana potions below their configured thresholds;
- re-enter after death while portals remain;
- continue to another eligible map while Play remains active.
4. Press Play
The Gatekeeper opens five portals. Your champion enters one, explores the dungeon, fights every monster, seeks the boss, and picks up permitted loot.
The top status ribbon shows the map tier, monsters remaining, boss state, portal count, and materials found during the run.
5. Read the result
On success, experience and rewards are applied before the champion returns to the Isle. Carried loot is moved into the stash. If the stash has no room, newly recovered loot may be lost, so keep some space available.
On death, the used portal closes. With portals remaining, the champion can make another attempt. Losing all five portals forfeits the map.
First upgrades
Early upgrades usually come from replacing a weak equipment base inside your own weapon family, equipping another skill gem from your own matrix, attaching a compatible support gem, spending Remembrance Points, or using Emeralds at the Blacksmith. A weapon from another class’s family is trade material, never an upgrade. The first support slot costs 1,000 gold and is not free. Do not optimize everything at once. Change one system, run another map, and observe the result.
