Maps & Portals
Learn map tiers, portal attempts, death rules, map drops, and the endless tier 1 mode.
Maps are the entire progression field of Darkspire. There is no campaign. Every run is a procedurally generated dungeon containing regular packs, higher-threat enemies, and a boss.
Map tiers
Standard progression runs from tier 1 through tier 15. Enemy power, item level, reward quantity, and reward rarity rise with tier.
Tier 1 is always available as an endless fallback. Higher-tier map entries are stored in the map stash and consumed when their runs resolve.
Five portals
Opening a map creates five portals. Each death consumes the portal used for that attempt. If the champion dies and portals remain, automation may send them back in after a short recovery.
When all five portals are gone, the map is lost.
Stopping manually is different from dying. A manual stop returns carried loot and preserves the map rather than consuming the remaining attempts.
Completing a map
A map completes when the boss and required monsters are slain. The server then applies experience, loot, currencies, map drops, and potion state before returning the champion to the Floating Isle.
Finding more maps
Regular monsters can drop maps, while bosses have a much higher map-drop opportunity. Some drops are one tier higher than the current run. This creates the main push loop: stabilize a tier, collect higher maps, then test the build deeper.
Tier gates
Several systems unlock through map depth:
- Emeralds drop at every tier;
- Rubies begin in tier 5 maps;
- Diamonds begin in tier 10 maps;
- Signature and Mythic affix access follows those same midgame and endgame gates.
Moving deeper is not only a numeric challenge. It expands the crafting and itemization possibilities available to the build.
